Breaking Free from the Cycle of Diets & Stress
Kathryn Wood, founder of AK FIIT, is on a mission to help women break free from the chains of yo-yo dieting, food guilt, and the exhausting binge-restriction cycle.
As a fitness coach with personal experience overcoming eating disorders and unhealthy relationships with food, Kathryn understands the struggles firsthand.
Her passion lies in guiding postgraduate women, those who are building their careers or businesses toward a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle that prioritizes self-love, freedom from food noise, and long-term health.
Battling Diet Culture & Finding Balance
Kathryn’s journey wasn’t always smooth.
After dealing with an eating disorder and constantly gaining and losing weight in a vicious cycle, she understood the toll that stress, societal expectations, and unrealistic body standards can take on a woman’s mental and physical well-being.
For years, she struggled to find a balance between achieving personal success and prioritizing her health.
The turning point came when Kathryn realized that true health isn’t about chasing “skinny” or conforming to diet culture—it’s about finding food freedom and a lasting approach to wellness.
“I know how difficult this is to deal with on a day-to-day basis,” she says, sharing her personal transformation story.
This is what drives her coaching today: helping women experience a lifestyle transformation that isn’t tied to restriction but rather to a sense of empowerment.
Helping Others Heal
Kathryn’s approach centers around understanding the deeper reasons why people struggle with weight loss, food choices, and body image.
By focusing on the root cause emotional health, stress, and food freedom, Kathryn helps her clients build long-term habits rather than temporary fixes.
“My goal is to help my clients understand food noise, find food freedom, and create a lasting lifestyle change,” she explains.
She works with her clients to help them break the cycle of quick fixes and embrace a healthier relationship with food and exercise.
Kathryn’s clients have experienced remarkable transformations, from healing their relationships with food to losing weight and feeling empowered.
“I’ve helped hundreds of women,” she says, “and hearing their stories of success is what keeps me going.”
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
While Kathryn is passionate about helping women, she’s not immune to the common challenges of entrepreneurship specifically imposter syndrome.
“The fear that I’m not good enough or that no one will want my services has been a huge hurdle,” she admits.
Like many entrepreneurs, she often finds herself comparing her progress to others, but she’s learned to trust her own journey. “Showing up authentically and sharing my story is what has helped me overcome this,” she reflects.
She credits her success to consistent content creation and connecting with her audience through her personal story.
As Kathryn becomes more confident in her abilities and in the value she offers, her business continues to grow, proving that staying true to oneself and embracing vulnerability is key to success.
The Balancing Act
As a busy coach, Kathryn juggles multiple roles: building her online business, navigating a full-time job she doesn’t enjoy, and adapting to her new life as a stepmom.
“Starting a business is expensive, and there are a lot of challenges,” she says.
“But I’ve learned to give myself grace when things don’t go as planned.”
One of Kathryn’s biggest realizations is the importance of creating a schedule and giving herself permission to step away from work when life gets busy.
“I’ve realized that I can’t do it all at once,” she shares.
Her goal is to build a sustainable business where she doesn’t have to overwork herself, eventually hiring support to handle some of the daily tasks so she can focus on growth.
A Thriving, Balanced Life
Kathryn’s vision for the future is clear. “I want my business to thrive,” she says, “without feeling overworked or undervalued.
I want to be able to help women transform their health and live lives they love.”
Her ideal future includes a thriving coaching business where she’s making a meaningful impact on her clients’ lives, while also enjoying a sense of work-life balance that allows her to thrive as a stepmom and individual.
Most importantly, she wants to serve women in a way that inspires them to believe in themselves and make lasting, positive changes in their health.
