From Struggles to Healing
Amber Thomason’s path to becoming a licensed professional counselor was born out of her own experiences of overcoming challenges.
As a single mom, she faced the same hurdles many working parents do: the overwhelming juggle of responsibilities, trying to keep it all together, and making time for self-care.
But Amber’s journey took an unexpected turn when COVID-19 hit.
During the pandemic, she was forced to pivot her counseling practice into full-time telehealth, while simultaneously homeschooling her children and trying to sell her home.
The stress was immense, yet it became a turning point that led her to refine her vision and grow her practice into something bigger than she ever imagined.
Creating a Safe Space for Healing
Amber’s primary goal as a counselor is clear: she aims to help individuals especially teens and adults find self-acceptance and break through the barriers that stand in the way of a balanced, healthy life.
Her specialty lies in transitions, anxiety, and depression, and she’s committed to meeting clients where they are, offering a compassionate and non-judgmental space to unravel their struggles.
Throughout her practice, Amber has seen remarkable transformations.
Many of her clients have reported improvements in anxiety and even achieved their personal goals after working with her.
Sometimes, it’s just about finding that safe space to untangle the thoughts holding you back and reframing how you see the world.
The Reality of Starting a Practice
Running her own private counseling practice, Amber has experienced the typical ups and downs that come with entrepreneurship, especially in the mental health field.
As a single mom with two kids, starting a business on her own wasn’t easy.
The financial strain and slow growth in the early stages were tough, and there were many moments when she questioned if she was on the right path.
But Amber knew she was in this field for a reason. “I didn’t have a lot of support growing up, so I went into this field to be that support for others,” she shares.
Her mission to undo the stigma around mental health and counseling is the driving force behind her work.
She believes that many people still shy away from seeking help due to fear or shame, and she’s determined to break down those walls and make therapy more accessible and approachable.
Building Strong Systems and Growth
After several years of practicing part-time, Amber is now ready to grow her practice further.
Having worked at a school for the past four years while growing her caseload, she’s finally building the systems and support she needs to expand into a group practice.
The process has been slow, and there have been challenges with insurance changes, legal issues, and the typical start-up struggles, but Amber remains grounded.
She practices patience, knowing that this journey requires time and trust.
Her goal is simple: to continue providing exceptional care while reaching more people.
She dreams of offering stronger tools and resources to help her clients live life to the fullest free from the stigma and fear that often surrounds mental health care.
Managing Work, Family, and Self-Care
As a single mom, balancing work and family life is no small feat. Amber often feels torn between her practice and spending quality time with her children but she makes it a priority to practice self-care and step away from work when needed.
By maintaining this balance, she can recharge and remain present for her family.
She’s also incredibly grateful for the progress she’s made in her personal life, finding moments of peace and fulfillment.
Although life isn’t always perfect, Amber knows that the little things like spending time with her kids and taking care of herself—are what keep her grounded through it all.
Healing Starts with a Single Step
Amber’s journey is a testament to resilience and the power of perseverance.
From overcoming the challenges of raising children on her own to building a successful counseling practice, her story shows that with the right support, anything is possible.
Through her work, Amber helps clients break free from their emotional struggles, regain control over their mental health, and embrace a life of balance and healing.
If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, know that you don’t have to do it alone.
At Reignelle, we believe in the power of personal transformation, and Amber’s work is just one example of how therapy can unlock the path to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
