Heart Work, Not Hard Work

Donna didn’t start a business, she started a movement.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, she offers more than just general counselling.

Her work is about creating safe spaces where people can breathe, be heard, and begin to heal without judgment, labels, or shame.

Mental health support, in its most human form.

Not in a Box, Not on Her Watch

After working in environments where care came with constraints and healing was treated like a checklist, Donna knew there had to be another way.

“I wanted to reach people in a wholesome way,” she says. “Not boxed in. Not having to report to a boss.”

So, she built her own practice, Donna Lizelle Counselling and Mediation to make that vision real.

It’s now been 12 months of holding space for transformation, one brave story at a time.

She’s Not Just a Counsellor, She’s a Catalyst

Donna doesn’t do this for the accolades.

She does it for the moments, the ones that change everything.

Like the time a mother referred her teenage daughter, worried and overwhelmed.

A few sessions later, that same mother came back with tears in her eyes: “The difference in my child is mind-blowing.”

It’s those transformations quiet but powerful that remind Donna why she keeps going, even when the bookings are slow or the bills are due.

Doing the Inner Work While Holding Space for Others

Running a healing business means doing your own healing, too.

Donna recently went through a breakup and she’s been courageously navigating her own emotional world, all while guiding others through theirs.

“I’m working on myself and I’m happy with the progress,” she says with a grounded grace.

When the doubts creep in, Will I be able to help them the way they need? she leans into her support network and reminds herself: presence heals, not perfection.
