Embracing Migration as a Path to Personal Growth

Building a Path for Emotional Clarity Amidst Transition

As a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, and neuropsychologist, Marilia Bonelli Bressan brings a combination of clinical expertise and deep empathy to her work.

Her approach blends scientific knowledge with holistic care, offering therapy and support to those navigating the emotional complexities of life especially for people living abroad.

After moving to Europe herself, Marilia realized the emotional and bureaucratic hurdles that many psychologists face when relocating.

“When I moved, I couldn’t find the kind of guidance I needed—emotionally, professionally, or even bureaucratically,” she shares.

“So now, I offer the kind of support I wish I had when I was going through it.”

Marilia works to bridge this gap, offering grounded, practical support for people in transition, helping them feel at home in their own lives, no matter where they are.

A Personalized Approach to Migration and Mental Health

In her practice, Marilia specializes in supporting individuals going through major life transitions, particularly grief, anxiety, and complex relationship challenges.

Many of her clients are expatriates adjusting to life abroad, struggling with the emotional toll of migration.

But whether or not someone is living abroad, Marilia’s work is focused on helping people reclaim their emotional clarity during periods of upheaval.

Marilia’s own experience of moving across countries provides her with a unique, empathetic understanding of the psychological impact of migration.

She knows firsthand the emotional challenges that come with settling into a new environment.

“Migration doesn’t have to be framed as a loss,” Marilia says.

“I want to help people see migration as an opportunity for growth, a chance to experience personal development at an accelerated pace.”

Her therapy is grounded in both clinical insight and lived experience, offering a space for individuals to process their emotions and embrace the transitions in their lives.

“I help clients reconnect with themselves, guiding them to see that change isn’t something to fear, it’s something to embrace.”

Guiding Other Psychologists

Marilia’s work isn’t limited to individuals.

She also mentors psychologists, especially those from South America (mainly Brazil), who are seeking to rebuild their careers in Europe.

“I provide guidance on how to relocate their practices, whether through academia or clinical work,” Marilia explains.

“It’s about helping them navigate the emotional, cultural, and professional aspects of this transition.”

Her mentorship is deeply rooted in her commitment to authenticity and ethical practice.

Marilia made a conscious decision not to follow the mainstream business model of “productizing” mental health care—no pre-recorded courses, no marketing gimmicks, no superficial success promises.

“I didn’t want to sell illusions,” she says. “I wanted to build something real—something human and ethical.”

For Marilia, it’s not about scaling for profit; it’s about creating something meaningful, sustainable, and aligned with her values.

The slower growth may come with its own set of challenges, but she is committed to staying true to her vision.

Staying True to Authenticity Amidst Growth Challenges

Building a practice from the ground up without compromising values is not easy.

One of Marilia’s biggest challenges has been staying consistent in her work while not losing sight of her authentic self.

“I am doing everything alone,” she admits, “and while it’s important to maintain my authenticity, it can make it harder to scale and stay visible consistently.”

However, despite the emotional and financial exhaustion that often comes with a deeply individualized approach, Marilia’s commitment to her clients and her values remains unwavering.

“I refuse to sacrifice my principles for mass marketing formulas that promise quick results,” she says firmly.

“Instead, I focus on real care and offering personalized, tailored support for my clients.”

The Emotional Cost of Building Something Real

Like many entrepreneurs, Marilia faces emotional costs as she builds her business.

In addition to the weight of running a practice, she carries the pain of personal loss.

“I’ve been struggling with emotional regulation, especially after the loss of my brother,” she shares.

“It’s not easy to balance everything, and as a psychologist, I’m not immune to self-doubt and exhaustion.”

In response, Marilia has prioritized self-care by simplifying her daily routine and taking time to rest.

“I go back to basics: body, rest, food, silence,” she says.

“When it gets overwhelming, I step back and come from a more honest place.”

Her focus on emotional clarity and intellectual stimulation helps her navigate the complexities of life and work, ensuring that she stays grounded, even in the face of challenges.

Building Meaningful Support, One Step at a Time

Marilia’s journey is one of resilience, authenticity, and passion for helping others find emotional clarity during their transitions.

Whether working with individuals navigating grief and anxiety or mentoring psychologists looking to build careers in a new country, her approach is grounded in real, ethical care.b

At Reignelle, we believe in the importance of meaningful connections and the impact of true care in the mental health space.

Marilia’s dedication to offering support that is both ethical and human-centered is a powerful reminder that the work we do can and should be aligned with our values, no matter the challenges we face along the way.
